Century Villages at Cabrillo

A 27-acre former naval base in Long Beach, the Century Villages at Cabrillo campus provides 81 homes of permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless veterans and families, as well as extensive on-site supportive services. Encouraged by the architecture, we brought many elements of the exterior design to the interiors, including the various shades of yellows, grays, and greens, plus pops of vibrant colors in artwork throughout. Keeping in mind the open glass walls throughout the various buildings, we selected sound-absorbent products to mitigate the noise, while staying on track with LEED-certified products to score a Platinum level. Amenities include a community room with professional kitchen for cooking and prep lessons, The main lobby takes you to the social services area that provides a live/work room, a classroom that seats 44 with an adjacent separate kids’ room and offices for management and service providers. A second wing of that building contains a large reception area, more offices and a conference room to seat 24. The campus also includes a family health clinic with full services for the vets and their families. In addition to creating a new community it also provides many new exterior gathering spaces, and a grand lawn — with a stage — for very large gatherings.
