Design plays a critical role in long-term housing stability — especially for people transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing.
At Linc Housing’s Azure community in Anaheim, JAG Interiors completed shared and private spaces designed to reflect the builder’s intent — balancing function, durability and a sense of possibility.
Previously a 119-room motel, Azure at North Harbor has been reimagined as 87 affordable apartments, creating permanent housing along a walkable Anaheim corridor near transit and neighborhood services. The adaptive reuse reflects California’s Project Homekey goals — delivering housing quickly while prioritizing long-term livability.
Artwork throughout the community reinforces the builder’s vision of positive transformational change for their residents.
The community’s name draws inspiration from the Azure butterfly, an intentional nod to positive, life-affirming change. That idea is reflected throughout the property in artwork and murals, offering visual cues of progress and new beginnings.
Residents also benefit from outdoor amenities — including a central courtyard, community garden and dog park — along with onsite services that support employment, education, health care and financial stability.
Azure is part of a broader, coordinated Homekey effort by Linc Housing. To date, the organization has completed four Project Homekey communities — delivering nearly 400 affordable apartments — all carrying butterfly names that reflect the shared catalyst theme. In addition to Azure, they include Zephyr and Crescent in Long Beach and Atlas in Los Angeles.
Linc Housing’s mission is to “create communities where every person has the stability and opportunity to thrive.” As they mark 40 years of “serving the underserved,” Linc continues to tackle the region’s housing shortage head-on, creating pathways to healing, belonging and hope by emphasizing solutions that create measurable impact.
“Thanks to California’s Homekey program and our development partners, we’re transforming underutilized motels into housing that helps people rebuild their lives more quickly.”
